Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
To quote you exactly: "He oversaw the longest trophy drought under Porto’s ownership."

Now, how the fuck is that meaningfully different to "the worst trophy drought in a club's history"?

If anyone's broken, son...

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
In fairness to Lopetegui, Meerkat, I don’t think Wolves were prepared to free up much money for the manager when they went looking for a left back.

Hence, he looked at Cress (getting on by then) as a cheap option.

Sorry, Nagel, are you broken or something?

“If you use hyperbolic statements like the worst trophy drought in a club's history…”

When and where did I say that?

The irony of you using the word hyperbole to describe somebody else’s words..!

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Amorim being the youngest of those mentioned would I suppose be the more dynamic modern coach , but I’m not at all sure he was genuinely interested .
Looks like it’s Lopetegui now , not a revolutionary appointment, hopefully evolutionary.
Let’s give the guy a chance - getting Moyes out was the priority.
Can anyone shed any light on Wolves wanting Cresswell whilst Lop was there , was it he wanted him or a cheap skate board shout ?
Would be concerned if it was the former.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
If you use hyperbolic statements like the worst trophy drought in a club's history, then yes, that is clearly meant to imply that he's their worst ever manager, or at least one of them. Even if there's truth in it, when it only takes into account one single season then it's not worth making such a fuss about.

You moan about stats that don't back you up but you're happy to use ones that do, even if they're completely without context. You again mention heavy spending at Porto, ignoring the fact that they were selling more than buying and made well over £100m transfer profit in his time there.

You go on about this 3 horse race and say that his win ratio is inflated, but how can it be when it's being compared to his predecessors and successors? They all played in the same league. It's a like for like comparison.

Sbb you can have a pop at me all you like but you have been called out on this thread by others and now on the other thread. Maybe take a step back and think it’s more than one poster that thinks I’m wrong so maybe I am?

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
For a bit of human context...Portugal's "big three" have only ever failed to win their league (between them) on two occasions in the history of Portuguese football.

If you don't have a high win ratio at Benfica, Porto or Sporting Lisbon, you need to explain yourself. There is a considerable drop-off in quality thereafter - so what matters is how you perform against the other two big sides. It's a running joke in Portugal.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Nagel - now who's sounding hysterical?

I've never claimed, nor tried to imply, that Lopetegui is "the worst manager they [Porto] ever had".

Only you have tried to say that's the case. You are aware - aren't you? - that Porto's owners eventually explained to the media that they sacked Lopetegui because the team was going backwards expensively. He was lagging behind Benfica and Sporting and, as several people have pointed out to you, it is a three-horse race in Portugal.

And it is a fact - I know LJC seems to hate those - that, at the point when they sacked him, his tenure as manager was the longest Porto had gone without a trophy under that owner. That's what I had explained. Not what you claimed!

He spent heavily in Portugal and was sacked within two years after falling behind the only other two competitive sides in the country. Or are you going to try to spin that some other way?

It looks like he's going to get the job here. In which case, as a West Ham fan, I hope he wins every game 5-0.

But I'm not blind to his failings (there have been many) - and I'm certainly not trying to use his inflated win ratio in Portugal - in what amounts to a three team league in which he finished third - to imply he's a top coach.

Not quite getting the media anger at how the club are handling this

It happens all the time. Moyes would have been sacked had his contract not be coming to an end.

All clubs have a manager ready before current manager is gone.
Manager sacked at 10am and new manager in at 11am etc .

If it is true club need to announce now. Prob let Moyes take the Luton game and then get caretaker in for the last one. New manager needs to be involved asap and working behind the scenes. Huge summer of players in and out

"But the stats don’t tell the real story."

What you mean by that is that the stats don't back up how you want to spin things, with your laughable dramatics about the "longest trophy drought under Porto’s ownership" from his one full season in charge, trying to make out that he's the worst manager they ever had, when he clearly isn't.

What a surprise - the cheapest high profile boring football manager Sullivan can find.

That’s my big concern too. That as per the usual, when faced with a big decision or one with a lot of money riding on it, he reverts to type and just goes with what his mates tell him, or with the cheaper ‘safer’ more short sighted option while something else slips through his fingers. Seduced by the past rather than considering the future.

Pretty odd for a self made billionaire to be so risk averse and bereft of ambition. Maybe it’s just conservativeness kicking in in old age.

If you win fuck all in a 3 team league you will often be sacked. If he was sacked half way through his second season with the team in 3rd (where they also finished), then it would presumably have been because those closest to the club felt that they weren't improving and that his squad with him at the helm wasn't capable of improvement
